I’ve signed up with another microstock photography agency. This one is Yay Micro. It’s a fairly new agency. I had first read about it at Microstockdiaries (a very helpful blog about the microstock industry and various agencies) sometime last fall when I was starting out in microstock photography. I hadn’t really considered it until now. Today, my first five uploads were accepted. So, I now have photography at six agencies. Though, Fotolia has only accepted 2 of my uploads!
I was searching around the net the past couple of days to see if there was any new information or reviews of Yay, but I didn’t find too much new information. I think it’s still too new for any real assessment of this particular agency. There’s fierce competition now between agencies, and also between macrostock and microstock. There’s also some in between, and that seems to be where the industry is headed, as far as a newbie such as myself can tell anyway.
In any case, I decided I may as well give this agency a shot, and add to my outlets. I’m still trying to get accepted into iStock and Shutterstock. I have accounts set up, but have been rejected a few times. I’ve taken the rejections well so far. I’m just using it as motivation to improve my photography. In some cases, my rejections have been caused by the images being too grainy from using film. Others are because of the subject matter. They aren’t suited to stock photography. Too artsy, perhaps. I’m not trying to say my photos are so great because they’re too artsy for them. It’s mainly a style issue, and not a quality issue. And to be honest, some of my work just doesn’t cut the mustard. But, since I’ve been using the Digital SLR, I’ve been focusing in on improving my photography. I’m tired, but I’m enjoying it, and I think I’m making progress.
Anyway, if you’d like to see my portfolio at Yay, click here: Yay Micro portfolio
